Here's the blocking we practiced today (Jan 3) for the Disney performance. Click any picture to enlarge if you want more detail. Band is moving toward the top of screen in all pictures.
Band will be lined up 4 abreast for the Disney parade. Flags, banner, twirlers, dancers in front of the band; color guard at the REAR of the band. We'll come out of the gates at Disney playing our parade tunes above. |
When we get out onto the big circle that makes up Main Street, we'll reach the location where we are allowed to stop and do our standstill and begin marking time in place. (We may still be playing, or may be in a cadence - either way is okay, we just keep doing what we're doing as we normally would). We'll look something like Picture 1 at right. (Please note that I don't have exact numbers of band members or auxiliaries in these pictures - just enough to show you the idea.) |
WHILE WE ARE STILL MARKING TIME, Steve will give a whistle signal (medium-short, 2 beat pause, 4 short whistles) while showing two hands pointing inward. After the 4 short whistles, the twirlers and dancers will spread out to the edge of the street; the band block will compress toward the center of the street, like Picture 2 at right ... |
... and march forward into the gap that the auxiliaries just created, leaving us with half the auxiliaries on each side of the band (and color guard in its normal block in the back of the band). We'll look something like Picture 3 at right. |
If we are playing when we reach this point, we'll finish out the tune, then halt. If we are doing a cadence at this point, we'll whistle a halt. |
| From this formation (Picture 3), we'll play the medley (We're An American Band plus Louie Louie). We'll start this the same way we did in Washington. We'll do a roll-off style whistle, but THERE IS NO ROLL-OFF. Drums start immediately at bar 1 of American Band, rest of band does the slow "instruments up" to be ready to come in at bar 3. MARK TIME throughout American Band and be sure to do all the horn moves and look sharp! | |
| At the end of American Band, we go straight into Louie Louie. As L2 goes along, I'm guessing that alignment will get looser as we get funkier and have fun with the crowd! Finish with the long fall and bow at end of L2. | |
| IMMEDIATELY after finishing, Steve will blow another roll-off style whistle but THERE IS NO ROLL-OFF. We go immediately into Wooly Bully ("Uno! Dos! ..."). Flags and banners will move forward on street to make room for the auxiliaries; twirlers and dancers will move SMARTLY forward to reclaim their original (Picture 1) positions out in front of the band; the band will uncompress and we head off for the rest of the Disney Parade. |
